ONE DAY TOURIt's a travel by the most emblematic places of the route of the Knights of the Temple. The Order was founded in Jerusalem in the year 1118. In Portugal the Templars fought since around 1125 in the territory of the County of Portucale (future Kingdom of Portugal). The support of warrior monks was decisive in the conquest of Santarém from the Moors in 1147, it is by this time that Gualdim Pais becomes a Portuguese grand master.
The journey begins in Santarém, with a visit to the "Porta do Sol" (gates of the sun), sections of the walls and the tower called headers. Santarém was a privileged place in strategic terms and defensive at the time of the Christian reconquest. We continue to Almourol, visit the Castle which is one of the most representative examples of military architecture of the time, evoking the early days of nationality and the Templar order, which will reinforce the aura of mystery and romance.
Arriving in Tomar the tour begins in the castle, founded by Master Templar Gualdim Pais. Its construction began in March 1160, starting by building the one of the most important parts in the West. In Tomar it is essential to visit the Convent of Christ, founded in 1162, also by Temple Master Gualdim Pais. The temple still retains memories of the Templars. This convent was the headquarters of the Templars and, later, the Order of Christ. It's UNESCO World Heritage. The visit follows to Ourém with its castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Portugal. The tour ends at Fatima, one of the greatest Marian Sanctuary in the world.
